Getting to Göbekli Tepe.
Published distances and a municipal bus timetable help orient the trip. Current routes, fares and road times are not all confirmed.
FROM THE CITY CENTRE
Municipal bus
ReportedThe municipality's Göbeklitepe page lists a timetable at Şanlıurfa Museum, Abide and Göbeklitepe. The first listed row is 08:45 / 09:00 / 10:00 and the last is 16:45 / 17:00 / 18:00. The page gives no route number, fare or clearly labelled return-direction timetable; confirm the current service before relying on it.[2]
The separate route 100 notice is historical and its timetable differs from the municipality’s accessible timetable page. Do not treat it as confirmed current service.[4][2]
FROM THE CITY CENTRE
Dolmuş
ReportedNo reliable current dolmuş route or fare was found in the sources reviewed. Confirm locally before relying on shared transport.[2]
FROM THE CITY CENTRE
Taxi or car
ReportedSources place Göbekli Tepe about 15–18 km east or northeast of central Şanlıurfa. The stated figures vary and are not driving-time measurements.[1][2][3]
No current official drive-time estimate or verified taxi fare was found. Use a current route planner for the road and confirm costs with the provider.

ReportedBETWEEN THE SITES
Göbekli Tepe & Karahan Tepe
EstablishedThe straight-line separation between the Göbeklitepe and Karahantepe destination coordinates on their Ministry map links is about 37.2 km. This is computed from the two map-pin coordinates, not a road distance.[1][8]
Karahan Tepe’s current access is disputed: the Ministry page marks it closed while the Taş Tepeler project page says open. Check with the museum before planning your visit.[8][11]
SITE APPROACH
Shuttle & welcome centre
ReportedThe 2017 UNESCO nomination dossier describes a shuttle from the visitor area to the plateau covering about 900 m, followed by a roughly 200 m walk to the excavation. This describes the infrastructure at that time; the current shuttle route and boarding point were not verified after visitor-centre works.[9]
In December 2025, AA reported that a new welcome centre, café, rest facilities and car park were being prepared about 2.5 km below the site, with opening planned for 2026. No official opening confirmation was located by the retrieval date, so the current parking and transfer starting point remain unverified.[10]
